Let me introduce myself.

Hi there! Welcome to the first blog post of Spots & Speckles. Instead of just jumping in and start posting stuff I thought it would be nice to write an introduction post and give you a little bit of insight in our lives!

Spots & Speckles is founded by my lovely mother (Maryline) and myself (Jolien).
We both are passionate about ceramics and home decor. We are really excited to meet you and can’t wait to share all our ideas and objects with you.

A mother and daughter duo

My mother and I decided to start our own business after taking ceramics classes for about 2 years. We always wanted to learn a craft together and we just love to play around with clay. Currently our shop exists out of unique ceramic objects, but we are planning to branch this out to home decor in general. So expect to see a lot of new things hitting the shop very soon!

We always had a creative side that we wanted to explore further, but we never really got to it until now. My mother is really into knitting and creates all of these cute creatures called “amigurumi”. Have you heard about this? If not, check out this fun diy project on how to make your own amigurumi baby jellyfish!

I myself have been a graphic designer for several years and I paint a lot. I specialize in abstract paintings and collages with a feminine touch. You can check out my work on my website if you’re curious!

We finally decided to bundle our creative minds to start this studio and we couldn’t be happier. We want to tell our story and inspire you to do the same and that’s why we created this blog.

What is this blog going to be about?

On this blog we will regularly post about two different subjects.
First of all we want to pass along our knowledge so we can inspire others to get creative as well. We love to make our home cosy and we love spending time in it. You spend almost half of your life in your home, so why won’t you make it the coziest place ever? We will give you tips and tricks so you can make the best out of your beautiful little cocoon and make it even more unique! Expect a lot of DIY projects and tips and tricks to be the perfect hostess. These projects won’t have a specific theme, we love variation and always discover new ways to spark up your home!

My mother also is a great chef. So if she’s not in our atelier playing around with clay, you can definitely find her in the kitchen playing with vegetables! I have a deep interest in healthy, plant-based foods. So we’re constantly experimenting in the kitchen and trying out new recipes to fill our handmade ceramic bowls. Think lots of veggies and natural, non-processed ingredients. Your body and tastebuds will thank you later! I will make sure to include links to the tableware in our pictures. Your food just tastes so much better out of a beautiful bowl, am I right?

That’s about it! If you have any questions or if you want to see some other topics on this blog, please let me know in the comments. I would love to listen to your suggestions!
